SideSlide

SideSlide, a free and portable desktop extension, allows you to create containers. These containers can be placed anywhere you want: in the middle of the desktop, as tabs on the side of the desktop, on the SideSlide workspace, anywhere you want. The containers can feature notes, links to applications, links to folders, and more.

Download an archive, extract its contents, run the setup executable, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will help you install SideSlide on your PC. This wizard will ask you to choose between a Normal and a Portable installation. Go with the first option if you plan to use SideSlide on your PC, go with the second if you want to put SideSlide on a USB stick and use the application on the go, on other PCs.

By default, the main SideSlide workspace is presented at the top of your desktop (this default position can be easily changed). This workspace is collapsible, meaning it will hide out of sight when not focused. You can bring the workspace out of hiding by placing the mouse cursor at the top of your desktop or by using a hotkey.

From the SideSlide workspace you can create containers. These containers can be placed on the workspace, can be placed on the desktop, or they can be put on the sides of the desktop (tabs will indicate that a container is located on the side of the desktop). These containers can feature the following: notes, files, folders, applications, URLs, system commands, pictures.

The appearance of the workspace can be customized: change the colors, pick a theme, change the font, select a wallpaper. The appearance of the containers can be customized as well: change the container colors, change the note colors.

From the SideSlide workspace you can also create notes, reminders, RSS news feeds, and more.
